Grade 6 Students Organize Health and Wellness Fair for Lower School Tartans

The students took a topic they learned in health and well-being class and create a hands-on activity for Lower School students to enjoy.
With stations set up all around the Fountain Courtyard, Middle School students in the grade 6 health and well-being course invited Lower School students to engage in fun activities and learn more about a variety of topics during a health and wellness fair last month.
 
The fair was a chance for grade 6 students to share their learning and encourage good health and wellness to the younger Tartans. Buddies in kindergarten and grade 3 came together to explore all of the offerings during the 30-minute fair. 
 
There was a station where students could try yoga poses. Another gave an introduction to CPR using stuffed animals. There was a table for mindfulness, a rock-painting activity for positive thinking, and a look inside an emergency preparedness kit.  
 
All of the stations were the culmination of a semester-concluding project students in the grade 6 health and wellness class. In the past, students have created a health-and-wellness ebook touching on a topic they learned in class. This year, health and wellness teachers Leslie Pacheco-Manning, Darla Magaña and Father Earl Gibson decided to shift to a more active project Lower School students would enjoy and learn from.
 
“Our students could take any topic they learned in health and well-being class and create a hands-on activity for the fair project,” Mrs. Magaña said. “We told the students the ages of their audience and their abilities, and the grade 6 students planned rotations to teach, share and do. They came up with some really good ideas.”
 
The grade 6 health and well-being class is divided into three specific paths of study—spiritual health, taught by Father Earl; personal health, taught by Mrs. Pacheco-Manning; and digital health, taught by Mrs. Magaña.
