Tartans Sink Segerstrom 55-27 in CIF-SS First Round Win

St. Margaret's will advance and face South Pasadena on Nov. 11.
Quarterback Max Ruff was unstoppable in the Tartans' 55-27 CIF-SS Div. 11 First Round playoff win Friday evening, completing 26 of 35 attempts for 398 yds. and seven touchdowns against the Jaguars. Ruff's seven touchdown passes ties a school record set in 2021 by his brother, Jack Ruff '22.

St. Margaret's offense had no trouble against Segerstrom, with Derek Smith hauling in 180 yds. on eight receptions and three touchdowns. Sam Dunnell also contributed three touchdown receptions and had 117 yds. receiving on seven catches.

Defensively, the Tartans stymied Segerstrom all evening in front of a large Jaguars crowd. Defensive back Luke Newman led with five tackles and a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown to put the game out of reach in the third quarter. Sam Dunnell contributed 11 tackles and an interception, while Sebastien Salazar had eight tackles and another interception for the Tartans. Andrew Miehe helped contain the Jaguars' rushing attack with nine tackles.

With the win, St. Margaret's advances to the Div. 11 Quarterfinal and will face 9-2 South Pasadena at home on Friday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m.
