Grade 3 Students Lead St. Margaret’s Community Participation in FAM Hunger Walk

St. Margaret’s students, professional community members and parents came together last weekend to participate in Family Assistance Ministries’ 35th annual Hunger Walk, an event which supports the efforts of one of St. Margaret’s longtime service partners.

 

The St. Margaret’s delegation was led by grade 3 students, who participated in the walk as part of their service learning and in conjunction with their United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of zero hunger. The FAM Walk took place in San Clemente, starting at the San Clemente Community Center and finishing two miles later at the Pier Bowl with music and celebrations. 

 

In addition, each grade 3 class had a service-learning lesson about FAM and its impact on Orange County families.

 

In total, more than $3,400 was raised by the St. Margaret’s team to support FAM’s mission of assisting those in need with food, shelter, and personalized supportive counsel. Overall, FAM surpassed their goal for the event by raising more than $150,000.

 

“We are thankful for all of those who participated in the FAM walk. We had a fantastic turnout and were happy see so many Tartan families join us,” Lower School Director of Community Life Tupper Spring said. “We are proud of our students’ work understanding the efforts of FAM, and working toward making a difference for Orange County families through this wonderful partner.”
