Tartan Football Notches First Win Behind Binder's 3 Touchdowns

St. Margaret's football program got a long-needed win Friday night, defeating Estancia High School 28-19 on the road.
 
Dual-threat Owen Binder was a workhorse for the Tartans, amassing three touchdown receptions, 173 reception yards on 12 catches, seven tackles, a forced fumble and a crucial fourth-quarter fumble recovery in the victory.
 
Offensively, St. Margaret's moved the ball well, led by quarterback Max Ruff who went 22-32 for 167 yards and three touchdown passes. Maverick Young connected a halfback pass to Binder late in the second quarter to give the Tartans a 21-13 lead heading into halftime. Receivers Derek Smith (2 catches, 23 yds, TD), Will Viola (3 catches, 32 yds) and Andrew Miehe (3 catches, 29 yds) kept the Eagle's secondary busy all evening.
 
On the defensive side of the ball, St. Margaret's kept Estancia at bay, led by Miehe (4 tackles), Brandon Miller (3 tackles), Jack Klausner (3 tackles, forced fumble) and Jonah Mackenzie (3 tackles).
 
With the win, the Tartans improve to 1-2 in Orange Coast League play and remain in the hunt for a postseason slot. St. Margaret's next faces Costa Mesa on Friday, Oct. 14.
