St. Margaret’s entire student body gathered on Monday to welcome in the 2022-2023 school year during the All-School Opening Ceremony.

With inspiring messages of love and gratitude, the ceremony was a spirited gathering of students from Early School through the Class of 2023, which was acknowledged with an ovation as they begin their last school year at St. Margaret’s.

Leading the senior class is Associated Student Body president Devin Thomas, who delivered an inspiring message with themes of love and gratitude to the school community.

“Gratitude isn’t just an action, but a mindset,” Devin said, “The mental practice of being thankful for who we are, where we are now, and who we have around us.”

The ceremony also featured prayers read by Lower School leaders and Middle School student council president Caden Choi, and a message from Head of School Will Moseley, who laid out this year’s three school-wide goals aligned with the St. Margaret’s mission of preparing students for lives of learning, leadership and service.

The goals are:
  • In learning, renewing focus on lives of learning. “We will design learning experiences that are responsive to student input regarding choice, relevance and well-being.”
  • In leadership, deepen connections to our Episcopal identity. “We will boldly affirm that Episcopal schools exist not merely to educate, but to demonstrate and proclaim the unique worth and beauty of all human beings.”
  • In service, nourish human connections at the heart of our community. “We will deepen relationships with the local community through partnership, engagement, collaboration and service learning.”

St. Margaret’s is fully enrolled for the 2022-2023 school year, a number that includes:
  • 225 new students
  • 198 new families
  • 48 new students with a current SMES sibling
  • 3 sets of twins
With the first day of the Early Childhood School on Monday, the all-school ceremony had the entire student body in attendance. With that, Mr. Moseley gave the students their first bit of homework—work that will last the entire school year.

“Your assignment for this year your is to love yourself and each other well,” Mr. Moseley said. “Each and every day.”
