Members of St. Margaret’s Tartan Dance Company recently traveled to the JUMP Dance Convention in Anaheim, an opportunity to study with master dance teachers in the genres of jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, jazz funk, lyrical, musical theater and ballroom.

The seven advanced dancers had the opportunity to bond with one another and learn from leading experts in the field. In addition, Director of Dance Kirsten Harvey and dance conservatory teacher Carly Taberski participated in teacher workshops, lectures and dance classes for professional development.

“Dance conventions are a large part of training for serious dancers,” Mrs. Harvey said. “We believed this would be the next step in the company’s technical and performance training.”

This is the inaugural year for the Tartan Dance Company, as 13 advanced dancers were selected after an audition process in September. Their season included performances at the Homecoming Pep Rally, Fright Fest, the Winter Dance Concert, and the Spring Dance Concert. The company is an arts-driven company rather than a competitive team and they meet one to two times per week after school to supplement their dance training in school day classes.

Auditions for the 2022-2023 Tartan Dance Company will take place on Sept. 1, 2022. For more information about the company or upcoming auditions, please contact Mrs. Harvey at kirsten.harvey@smes.org
