St. Margaret's Rolling Through Spring Postseason

Spring playoffs are in full swing, and the Tartans are in the middle of it.
St. Margaret's athletic department enjoyed a successful spring season and is currently fully engaged in CIF-SS postseason play.
 
Boys Lacrosse
 
The Tartans muscled through Sierra Canyon Wednesday evening, coming away with a 18-7 road win to advance to the CIF-SS Div. I Quarterfinals.
 
St. Margaret's was led by the 10 combined goals of Will Stahl (5g, 1a) and John Culley (5g), with Austin Hicks contributing four points on three goals and one assist. Owen Binder (2g, 2a), Matt Groeninger (1g, 1a), Riley Chester (1g) and Makai Todd (1g) rounded out the scoring for the Tartans.
 
"I'm incredibly proud of how our team came out of the gates after a two hour bus ride. That 1st quarter effort was just about as dominant as you could possibly hope for," said head coach Brian Kelly. "All the credit goes to the confidence and purpose our team is playing with right now."
 
St. Margaret's will face Los Alamitos at home on Friday, May 6, at 7 p.m.
 
Boys Volleyball
 
St. Margaret's dominated hosts Oak Park High School 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-20) on Wednesday evening in CIF-SS Div. IV Quarterfinal action.
Reed Wainwright led with 19 kills, 12 digs and 1 ace with Shane Aitken following with 35 assists 6 kills, 9 digs and 1 ace.
 
"The boys had another solid and consistent effort against Oak Park," said head coach Bob Yoder. "The Eagles mounted several strong challenges, but our team showed their resiliency by weathering and overcoming all of Oak Park's runs."
 
The Tartans will take on Millikan at home in the CIF-SS Div. IV Semifinal on Saturday, May 7 at 6 p.m.
 
Boys Tennis
 
The Tartans defeated Bolsa Grande 11-7 in the opening round of the CIF-SS Div. III Boys Tennis Playoffs.
 
Ryan Reda and Jack Hanna swept all three of their sets while the Tartans picked up a key singles set win from Kian Vargo. The doubles teams of Cole Roberts/Charles Ihara and Matt Welling/Braeden Nock both notched two-set wins.
 
"It was a well-played match yesterday. We were able to get strong play from the top of our lineup and had a few comeback wins in doubles. In playoffs all the teams are good so we were happy to get the win," said head coach Scott Lipsky. "It should be another good match on Friday at Whitney and the team will be ready."
 
St. Margaret's faces Whitney High School in the second round on Friday, May 6.
 
Boys Golf
 
St. Margaret's boys golf program notched another Academy League Championship on Wednesday at Los Serranos Country Club, where Cameron Danz and Mike He were designated First Team All-League as well as CIF-SS Individual Qualifiers.
 
Over the two-day event, Cameron Danz finished at 157 after a three-over-par day one score of 77 while Mike He ended with a 158 after a playoff extra hole to capture the sixth and final league postseason spot.
 
Keegan Carnell (84, 76), David Jiang (81, 84) and Steven Ma (85,87) were all named First-Team All League with Graden Huang (86) earning an Honorable Mention.
 
CIF Individual Regional play will begin on Monday, May 9 with Team Divisionals commencing on May 16.
 
In other playoff action:
 
Baseball will begin postseason play on Thursday, May 5, taking on Fullerton High School on the road.
 
Swimming & Diving is competing at the CIF-SS Div. III Championships on Thursday, May 5.
 
Track & Field looks to continue an incredible season at the CIF Prelims on Saturday, May 7, at Carpinteria High School.
