Tartan Swimming and Diving Teams Have Outstanding Start to Season

St. Margaret's has produced solid results against stiff competition.
St. Margaret's swimming and diving programs have embarked on the 2022-2023 competitive season with impressive results.
 
The Tartans recently competed at The Webb Schools on March 24 where St. Margaret's girls team won all but one event at the dual meet. Zoe Reynolds took first in 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle events. Heidi Tufo won the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley, while Lucy Young and Julia Olosky went 1st and 2nd in the 50 freestyle. Caitlin Rooney and Amelia Kang won the 100 freestyle 100 backstroke events, respectively. The Tartan relay teams swept all three relay events.
 
The boys' varsity team had an impressive showing, opening the meet with a win in the 200-medley relay and qualified with a CIF consideration time. Team captain Charlie Whiting led the Tartans, and won both of his events and qualified for CIF consideration in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. In addition, Jackson Collins earned swimmer of the meet when he and Justin Lizarde finished 1st and 2nd in the 50 freestyle. 

St. Margaret's had eight athletes with CIF consideration times:

500 freestyle - Caden Mai
Girls 400 freestyle relay - Zoe Reynolds, Amelia Kang, Julia Olosky, Heidi Tufo
100 and 500 freestyle -Zoe Reynolds
100 backstroke - Amelia Kang 
 
At the Santa Margarita Invite on March 12, the Tartans had four more CIF qualifying times:
 
200 individual medley and 200 freestyle - Zoe Reynolds *broke the meet record, 2:15.79 in the 200 IM.
200 individual medley and 200 freestyle - Heidi Tufo

Tartan divers Kate Taylor, Lily Djavaherian and Sarah McLaughlin competed at the Surf City Invite at Oceanview HS on March 19 against 47 local high school divers. St. Margaret's athletes represented well, with all three qualifying for CIF with their 11-dive list. Kate Taylor placed 5th overall with 453.25 points, with McLaughlin close behind at 338.45 points. Lily Djavaherian earned 307.10 points at the meet.

The Tartans will return to the pool on April 14, taking on Sage Hill.
