Tartan Track & Field Program Excels at Mid-Season Meets
St. Margaret's participated at the OC Championships and Meet of Champions this past weekend.
On Saturday, St. Margaret's track & field program had a productive day at the Orange County Championship Meet at Mission Viejo High School, seeing the Tartans continue to improve upon established results.
The Tartan 4x100 team consisting of Malia Todd, Coco Johnson, Sophia Karahalios, and Makenna Lizarde would open up the day with a strong performance, clocking in a time of 50.89, which ranks them 6th in CIF Div. IV.
Coco Johnson went on to continue her fantastic freshman season with a time of 59.80 in the 400m. That time ranks her in 10th for CIF and sets her up with the No. 3 all-time performance in school history.
The Tartans would close out the meet with Celeste Taylor breaking her school record in the pole vault with a mark of 11'6". Taylor would also go on to win the event and become the Orange County Champion.
St. Margaret's also participated in the Meet of Champions in Azusa on Saturday. Distance runners Amelia Kang and Sarah Bendzick cracked St. Margaret's top 10 all-time list with 12:07 and 12:08 performances, respectively, in the 3200M.
"We're moving in the right direction with our program. We had so many great marks come out from this weekend, and the kids should be very proud of the hard work they are putting in," said head coach Edgar Vazquez. "We are excited to see what our athletes can do later in the season. The athletes are ahead of schedule when it comes to performing, which is always a fun thing to watch unfold."
