Girls Beach Volleyball Finds Success in Inaugural Season
The Tartans are 2-0 to start a historic first campaign.
St. Margaret's athletic department embarked on a new journey in 2022, offering girls beach volleyball for the first time. The Tartans hit the ground running with two early-season victories, competing in the Orange Coast League against C.C. Santa Ana, Costa Mesa, Crean Lutheran, Estancia and Ocean View high schools.
Over two games played, St. Margaret's pairs of Lucinda Hill/Brady Moseley, Caroline Sele/Nicole Swensen, Kate Cruse/Ava Lentz and Piper Ruffner/Jacqueline Pupil have swept opponents in straight sets and kept the Tartans on top in the early run.
"It is exciting to be a part of the first team at St Margaret's in the new sport of beach volleyball. We started with seven girls, and they responded well to learning the beach game. Their enthusiasm for the sport has now encouraged four more girls to come out," said head coach Curt Lee. "The girls have been working hard to fine-tune their skills and understand the strategy of the beach game to compete at the highest level. We are off to a good start but still have a long way to get where we want to be. However, the progress of their development is impressive and has been fun to watch."
The Tartans will return to play Friday, March 18, taking on Costa Mesa High School at Huntington State Beach.
