Young Tartan Track & Field Team Performs Well at First Outing

St. Margaret's faced Irvine and Esperanza High Schools Thursday afternoon.
St. Margaret’s track and field team started the season strong this week at a meet against Irvine and Esperanza high schools.

The Tartans started off with a strong performance from the girl's 4x100 team that consisted of Malia Todd, Sophia Kistler, Sophia Karahalios, and Makenna Lizarde, who opened up with a 50.98 time and won their race. Everett Capelle would then follow with a solid opening time of 4:45.68 in the 1600m, where he would finish 2nd, missing the win by just .62 seconds.

Coco Johnson, a promising freshman, would open up in the 400m with a win of 1:04.69, which is already the leading mark in the San Joaquin League. Michael Hogan also had a personal best opening throw in the discus of 85'9" and is poised to have a tremendous senior season.

Finally, Luci Hill hit an all-time personal best in the high jump of 5'0", which is currently the top mark in CIF. She had a razor-close miss on 5'2" but look for her to make a run at a CIF title this season.

"We have a very young team that is already producing some great marks, and that is always fun to watch," said Tartan Head Coach Edgar Vazquez. "The best part about the meet was watching the kids support each other and celebrate everyone's success. I want to especially thank my coaching staff for being such great role models to our kids."
