St. Margaret's Student-Athletes Commit to Top Colleges and Universities During Winter Signing Period
Three student-athletes from the Class of 2022 committed to continue their academic careers and play intercollegiate athletics during the winter signing period.
St. Margaret's Episcopal School is pleased to announce that three student-athletes from the Class of 2022 committed to play intercollegiate athletics next year during the winter National Signing Day. Seniors Emma Bernstein, Julia Olosky and Isabelle Vartanian will continue their academic pursuits and play their respective sport at an impressive group of colleges and universities.
These student-athletes join eleven of their classmates who committed during the signing period in the fall.
Emma Bernstein, Emory University
Emma Bernstein, a member of St. Margaret's 2019 CIF State Champion girls soccer team, has committed to study and play soccer at NCAA Division-III Emory University in Atlanta.
Emma, a four-year member of the Tartan soccer program, has been a mainstay for the Tartans at midfield and an integral part of the team's recent success. Emma also serves as a captain on her club team.
Academically at St. Margaret's, Emma is a perennial Head of School Honors recipient and 2021 Wellesley Book Awardee, which is awarded to a young woman who has been a top scholar in high school as well as a talented performer in extracurricular areas.
Emma volunteers her time with St. Margaret's Peer Counseling program, is a Tartan Tutor, and coaches with the summer youth soccer programs.
Emma intends to major in biology on a pre-med track at Emory.
Julia Olosky, Northeastern University
Julia Olosky, a four-year member of the Tartan soccer program, has committed to study and play soccer at NCAA Division-I Northeastern University in Boston.
Julia, a member of the Tartans' 2019 SoCal Regional Championship squad, anchor's St. Margaret's scoring attack as a forward. Julia has been a Div. IV All-CIF selection as well as All-League award winner for the Tartans.
Julia has been a member and captain of the San Clemente Surf and West Coast F.C. programs at the club level. At St. Margaret's, Julia is also a member of the Tartan swim and dive program.
Julia volunteers her time with St. Margaret's Peer Counselors, the Infant Pantry and has partnered with San Juan Elementary School service opportunities.
Academically, Julia is a Head of School Honors recipient and intends on majoring in behavioral neuroscience at Northeastern.
Isabelle Vartanian, University of California, San Diego
Isabelle Vartanian has committed to study and row at NCAA Division-II University of California, San Diego.
Isabelle is an accomplished competitor, ranked No. 6 in the nation at youth nationals and No. 1 at central regionals in 2021. In addition, Isabelle was a youth national team member, which qualified as No. 5 out of 80 teams at the Head of the Charles event in Boston, in 2021.
Academically at St. Margaret's, Isabelle is an Honor Roll member and Head of School Honor awardee.
Isabelle volunteers her time at St. Mary's Armenian Church, is very involved with preserving Armenian heritage, and is a volunteer rowing instructor at Newport Aquatic Center.
“Having the ability to compete in college athletics at any level is a true accomplishment," said St. Margaret’s Director of Athletics Chris Nordstrom. “It is a testament to the work these young people have done to create these opportunities. It is also worth commending all of our teachers, counselors, coaches and administrators for their support of athletics overall. “
