Taking on challenging math problems in a tournament format, 11 students grades 6-8 competed in a fun and exciting Middle School Math Bee with the entire division in attendance in Hurlbut Theater.

The MS Math Bee is part of MathCounts, a national competition program that promotes middle school mathematics in the United States, making math achievement as challenging and exciting as a school sport.

It was certainly that, as students worked quickly against one another to solve complex math problems. Sometimes both competitors lunged for the buzzer at the same time, as the competitor with the most correct answers after three problems advanced in the competition.

In the end, grade 8 student Ryan Mohler was declared the winner after a competitive face-off with grade 8 student Richard Feng in the final round. Grade 8 student Daniel Chen placed third.

Joining the top three on stage were grade 8 student Leo Yang, grade 7 students Riley Bredall, Fiona Fei, Steven Wang and Amy Yao, and grade 6 students Megan Mohler, Zack Longo and Serena Rong.
