Fortuitous, Invigorating, Coronation and More--Middle School Spelling Bee Spotlights Talented Tartans
Eleven talented Middle School students squared off in a fun and competitive Middle School Spelling Bee in the Hurlbut Theater.
Taking on tough words like fortuitous, permanence, coronation and invigorating, 11 talented Middle School students squared off in a fun and competitive Middle School Spelling Bee in the Hurlbut Theater today.
It took five rounds of challenging words to narrow the field down to two finalists—grade 8 student Alina Chen and grade 6 student Elaine Chen. Both went back and forth spelling words correctly before Alina Chen was named champion after she correctly spelled “pallid” – an adjective meaning “lacking the normal amount of color.”
Alina will move on to the Orange County Spelling Bee written round, a qualifier for the Orange County Spelling Bee in March.
Joining Alina and Elena on stage were grade 8 students Kevin Hasani, Audrey Kim and Claire Martin, grade 7 students Evan Mai, Sam Ruff and Nicholas Serentelos, and grade 6 students Ann Gong, Dane Olsen and Jinbo Yao.
