St. Margaret’s Class of 2022 Receiving Early Acceptances to Top Colleges and Universities

The Class of 2022 at St. Margaret’s is deep into the college-admissions process and experiencing early success, with approximately 76 percent of the class receiving an acceptance letter prior to the new year.

 

In all, St. Margaret’s 124 seniors submitted more than 1,300 early applications, including binding early decision, non-binding early action and rolling decision applications. Ninety-four seniors have already received an early acceptance letter. 

 

It is an unprecedented time in college admissions, with the pandemic sparking significant changes in how colleges and universities evaluate applicants. Some schools have paused or eliminated standardized testing as a metric, and other factors—such as the NCAA granting an extra year of eligibility to current student-athletes—have impacted opportunities for high school students.

 

Nonetheless, St. Margaret’s students are poised for another strong year in college admissions. Of the 124 seniors, 26 students in the Class of 2022 have been admitted as binding early-decision applicants. They will attend top schools across the country, including Barnard College, Bates College, Bryant University, The University of Chicago (2), Drexel University, Emory University, Harvey Mudd College, College of the Holy Cross, Johns Hopkins University, University of Miami, Monmouth University (2), New York University (2), Northeastern University, Northwestern University (2), Rhodes College, Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, Tulane University (2), Wellesley College and the College of William & Mary.

 

In addition, St. Margaret’s students have already received non-binding acceptances to many top schools, including Stanford University, Yale University, Boston University, Virginia Military Institute, Pepperdine University, Baylor University, Loyola University Chicago and Babson College. St. Margaret’s also had 11 seniors commit to study and play intercollegiate athletics during the fall signing period.

 

Among the early-decision acceptances, Molly Allison applied to Bates College and was accepted. She wanted to attend school in Maine and loved the vibrancy and diversity of the Bates community, which convinced her to apply early-decision.

 

“I had decided that I wanted to attend Bates College more than I did anywhere else,” Molly said. “Not only did it make a statement in my application that I loved Bates the most, but I knew that if I were accepted I would be finished with the application process and bound to my top choice. It felt like a win-win situation.”

 

The College Counseling Office—which includes Director of College Counseling Elise Rodriguez, Senior Associate Director of College Counseling Amy Warren, Associate Director of College Counseling Erica Huerta and College Counseling Assistant Liz Kelly— has been hard at work helping the Class of 2022 as they navigate the college-admissions process this school year. The office arranged more than 100 virtual visits linking St. Margaret’s students with colleges and universities around the world, in addition to one-on-one meetings with each senior and regular updates to Class of 2022 families.

 

The college admissions process is ongoing, as some early applications are still awaiting a response. Admissions decisions will continue to roll in until April, with Class of 2022 students making their final commitment by May 1.
