Tartan Football Outlasts San Dimas 38-28 in CIF-SS Quarterfinal

St. Margaret's advances to the semifinals for the first time in four years.
St. Margaret's football program displayed its resiliency Friday evening, topping a talented San Dimas High School team, 38-28, in the CIF-SS Div. IX quarterfinals. The Tartans built up a 35-7 lead at the half before having to buckle down and hold off a determined San Dimas rally in the second half.

Quarterback Jack Ruff led the Tartans with 18 completions on 22 attempts for 255 yards and four touchdowns. Receiver Will Stahl was stellar all evening for the Tartans, catching six passes for 115 yards and three touchdowns while throwing a 30-yard touchdown strike to Derek Smith (4 catches for 92 yards, 2 TDs).

The Tartan defense had their work cut out for them, facing the clock-eating Wing-T ground game of San Dimas. Makai Todd had a big night, recording 21 tackles. Tyler Matthews contributed seven tackles and one fumble recovery to keep San Dimas at bay.

The win sets the Tartans up for a semifinal showdown with Claremont High School on Friday, Nov. 19 on Tartan Field at 7 p.m.
