Middle School Flag Football Team Wins League, Advances to P.A.L Championship

The Tartan flag football team defeated St. Serra 42-21 this week.
After missing an entire middle school athletic season last year, the boys on St. Margaret’s grade 8 Mountain A Flag Football team came into the season fired up and determined to make their mark in Parochial Athletic League play.

They did just that, finishing the regular season 9-1 and now, after a 42-21 semifinal victory over St. Serra Catholic this week, a berth in the P.A.L. championship. The Tartans will play St. Hedwig this Saturday in Anaheim.

The team’s season began with an exciting 42-36 win over St. Serra Catholic Middle School, the preseason favorite to win league. The team continued their unbeaten streak for the next seven games. Their one loss was to another strong St. Mary’s team, but the Tartans bounced right back to win their last game and end the regular season with a league winning 9-1 record.

Each and every game has been a tremendous team effort with stifling defense and explosive offensive schemes. When the playoff brackets came out and the team earned a second seed, the Tartans focused on their goal of making it to championship Saturday. Step one for the team was a convincing 41-0 victory over Queen of Angels, which advanced them to the semifinals and another match up with St. Serra Catholic, a team they beat twice in the regular season.

It is difficult to beat a team three times, but St. Margaret’s stepped up to the challenge and came away with a 42-21 win. They now prepare for St. Hedwig, the number one seed in the playoffs, in the championship game Saturday at St. Catherine. The Tartans have now readjusted their goal to not only be in the final game, but bring home the championship trophy. Good luck Tartans!
