It was a special Halloween experience for St. Margaret’s Lower School —thanks to the hard work and creativity of Middle School theater technical arts students.

The 11 Middle School students, along with tech arts teacher Gordon Richins and PAC production assistant Spencer Keane, worked for weeks to create a fun, interactive carnival experience for all students in kindergarten through grade 5 on Chalmers Field.

Each MS student had designed and constructed a game for the carnival. Some of the games included Fishing Fun, Mimi’s Mummy Wrap, Pumpkin Catapult, Spider Ball Toss, Coffin Mysteries, Gold Coin Toss and Jack’s Ring Toss. The students were then on hand to help the younger Tartans play the games.

“The tech students had the opportunity to see the results of their projects, have fun and develop in-person connections across divisions on campus,” Mr. Richins said.

Added Lower School Director of Community Life Tupper Spring: “The Lower School students love the big kids and how patient and kind they were. The eighth graders were so gracious to our little ones.”

Lower School students came to the field in Buddy grade levels (kindergarten with grade 3, grade 1 with grade 4, and grade 2 with grade 5). It was an opportunity for students to see their buddies and show off their Halloween costumes. After taking class photos in front of a spooky mansion backdrop, the students played games, received prizes and filled their decorated bags along the way. Between grade-level rotations, grade 5 students performed the traditional group dance.

“It’s magical,” Lower School Principal Jennifer Blount said. “The eighth graders planned it all, and they’re running it all. It’s an awesome cross-divisional experience.”
