PHOTOS: Lower School Celebrates Creativity During International Dot Day

International Dot Day is a global celebration which encourages students to embrace their spirit of creativity and use it to inspire others.
St. Margaret’s Lower School celebrated International Dot Day this week with a variety of creative activities taking place throughout the division.

International Dot Day, inspired by the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, is a global celebration which encourages students to embrace their spirit of creativity and use it to inspire others. The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark.”

Students enjoyed a free dress day, many head to toe in polka-dotted attire, and activities took place throughout the week. Students in kindergarten through grade 3 took part in Dot Day activity during their technology time in the iLab. The students created their own dot designs, then, using the QuiverVision 3D augmented reality app, students learned how to bring their dots to life.

“Students turned their dot art into 3D orbs, moveable blobs and a marble within a digital maze,” Lower School STEAM teacher Laura Redman said.

Elsewhere, Father Earl Gibson read The Dot as his homily in Lower School Chapel, and students also created dot-inspired projects that were displayed in the Lower School Library.
