The Tartans had a big weekend on the court, notching a season-first victory against Irvine Friday, followed by a championship effort at the Portola Tournament on Saturday.
St. Margaret's recorded first-year head coach Bob Yoder's inaugural victory at the helm, downing Irvine 3-1. The Tartans fought hard after dropping the first game and never looked back, buoyed by a rowdy student section in Pasternack Field House.
The Tartans looked to capitalize on the momentum of Friday's win through the opening rounds of the Portola Volleyball Tournament, reaching the finals to face Marina High School. St. Margaret's received solid play from Ava Lentz, Brady Moseley and Caroline Sele to capture the tournament crown.
"It was an overall good team effort with notable progress. The level of competition improved throughout the day, as did the team's performance. We played our steadiest, most consistent match in the finals," said head coach Bob Yoder. "The good news is there is a lot this team can improve on, and they are committed to doing just that."
