‘We Did It!’ PTF Honors Volunteers for Time, Talent and Dedication Through A ‘Virtual’ Year

The event is an annual St. Margaret’s tradition of recognizing the Parent Teacher Fellowship leadership and installing the new board for the upcoming school year.
The annual St. Margaret’s tradition of recognizing the Parent Teacher Fellowship leadership and installing the volunteer board for the upcoming school year, goes back since the origins of the school. This year was especially unique to offer gratitude and kudos to this esteemed group of dedicated parents who, under the leadership of 2020-2021 PTF President Dana Melsom, overcame unprecedented challenges and persevered in creative and resourceful ways to deliver on its mission of cultural and educational enrichment programs, community building and fundraising to support the school community. With dozens of events, like Forever Plaid: Tartans Together and the 39th Annual PTF Library Luncheon: Wanderlust, and programs, like PTF Parent Up Speakers Series and the PTF Hot Lunch program, the PTF raised more than $140,000 to fund educational student programs through the PTF Grants Enrichment program.

In alignment with this year of physical distancing and virtual gatherings, it was fitting that the 2021 New Board/Old Board Recognition took place in a webinar format that is available for the community to view at this link (password: ptf).

Head of School Will Moseley addressed the membership and expressed his deep appreciation for the faithful and tireless support of Mrs. Melsom and her entire leadership team, recognizing that this was not the year many had intended to have, but these dedicated volunteers rolled with the challenges in true Tartan can-do spirit. In addressing the PTF, Mr. Moseley said, “To Dana Melsom, words cannot express how grateful I am to have partnered with you during this challenging year. The PTF meetings, events and activities have continued in a seamless fashion because of your patience, flexibility, innovative spirit and visionary leadership.

“And, thank you to this year’s PTF Executive Board and General Membership Board as well. Your hard work has allowed the PTF to thrive this year. Each of you have made what could have been a very quiet year for PTF activities into a year full of connections and programming for all parents. Your theme was community and connection, and you certainly brought this theme to life! You did not miss a beat!”

Mrs. Melsom expressed her sense of awe, pride and gratitude for the year they accomplished together in a cheerful exclamation, “We did it!” to the group of fellow parent volunteers who, through their work together in support of students, families and the school, have also made treasured and lasting friendships, she said. She recognized each member of the 2020-2021 PTF board, and offered personal remarks of appreciation for each program chair and co-chair.

Before Mrs. Melsom officially passed the torch of leadership to the 2021-2022 PTF President she said, “I am so appreciative of our (PTF) chairs and our community at large. Serving as the PTF president is an honor and a privilege and I am proud to have been able to be a part of this organization.”

After formally taking the oath of office for the new post, administered by Mrs. Melsom, 2021-2022 PTF President Amy Ainsworth offered her own words of gratitude, “Dana, I honestly can’t imagine a better person to be our PTF president than you were this past year. You truly were amazing, and the best friend and partner I could have asked, and I am going to really miss you!”

Mrs. Ainsworth also offered appreciation and praise to the entire St. Margaret’s community for pulling together through this past year. “I have always been so proud to be a member of this community, and in our 12-plus years being at this school, I have never been more proud. We collectively rose to the occasion and our St. Margaret’s community is stronger than ever. It is my honor to serve as the PTF president next year, and we have a fabulous board that I am thrilled to announce.”

After announcing the 2021-2022 PTF Board, including president-elect Jess Klausner, Mrs. Ainsworth concluded, “Have a wonderful summer. Rest up for all the fun events we are already busy planning for next year. We cannot wait to see everyone in person once again. Go Tartans!"
