Works of Wonder Night Showcases Breadth and Depth of Early Childhood School Learning

The Early Childhood School’s year of exploration and projects large and small were celebrated and showcased at the school’s 3rd annual WOW Night, with parents welcomed on campus to attend alongside students over four nights this week.

WOW, or Works of Wonder, shows student projects big and small completed during the course of the school year.

“The Works of Wonder Night makes children’s learning visible,” said Dr. Cris Lozon, director of the Early Childhood School. “The projects emerged from children’s play, where they experimented, questioned and created while teachers listened and facilitated.”

WOW Night consisted of 10 classrooms separated into “Ateliers of Learning” which included:
  • A World of Lines
  • Bridging Connections
  • The Rights of Children and All Garden Creatures
  • Slow Snail Explorers
  • A Study of Light and Shadow
  • The Symbol of Storytelling
  • The Atelier: A Laboratory of Discovery
  • Our Journey on Ramps
  • Growing Brain Power Through the Arts and Nature
  • The Language of the Harvest
St. Margaret’s Early Childhood School is a play- and researched-based academic program with roots in constructivist teaching and the renowned Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. Reggio Emilia schools have a design of openness to community and a willingness to share ideas, which inspired the first WOW Night in 2019.

“WOW Night is a wonderful opportunity to listen to our youngest Tartans not only through their words but through their arts and projects,” Dr. Lozon said. “It is amazing to think that our young Tartans participated in activities that included the arts, engineering, design, technology, history, philosophy, architecture and the sciences throughout this school year.”
