Tartan Baseball Eyes Playoff Spot With Win Over Webb
St. Margaret's defeated the Gauls 5-2 Tuesday afternoon.
The Tartans downed visiting Webb School 5-2 in action Tuesday afternoon at San Juan Sports Park. In a crucial win for St. Margaret's, the Tartans received solid offensive and defensive efforts from the entire roster.
Andrew Miehe was a workhorse on the mound, with 6 2/3 innings pitched, allowing one earned run and recording seven strikeouts. Miehe improved to 4-0 on the year and maintains a 1.40 ERA.
Offensively, Hunter Smith and Trey Pate each contributed two hits in the win.
"Tuesday was a must-win for us as we need a sweep of Webb this week to clinch a playoff berth," said head coach Scott Wallis. "Sophomore Andrew Miehe put us on his sore back and was one out away from becoming the first Tartan pitcher to finish a complete game on the mound in the last five years. It was a total team effort yesterday, and we needed it. We've lacked consistency this year, so we'll see if we're finally figuring out how to win despite several injuries and inexperience."
If the Tartans can defeat Webb on the road this Thursday, St. Margaret's will keep its postseason hopes alive. Game time is slated for 3:15 p.m.
