Kindergarten Students Experience the Natural World at the Carlsbad Flower Fields
The Lower School's youngest learners experienced the wonders of nature and some of its most vibrant flowers on an off-campus field trip.
St. Margaret’s kindergarten students had the chance to leave campus and experience the wonders of nature and some of its most vibrant plants, when they took a field trip this week to the Carlsbad Flower Fields.
The Flower Fields is a popular springtime attraction in San Diego County, highlighted by a 50-acre hillside of ranunculus flowers that bloom this time of year in a variety of bright colors, for a stunning picturesque attraction near the Pacific Ocean. Beyond the main attraction, the Flower Fields have various other gardens (including a flower field that resembles the American flag) and many student-friendly nature learning opportunities.
It was the first Lower School field trip of the 2020-2021 school year, and St. Margaret’s kindergarten students had plenty of experiential learning opportunities. They learned about composting, planting, and the various bugs—some good, some bad—that frequent Southern California’s plants. They held worms, sang songs, planted a sunflower seed, created a bead caterpillar, and went through a sweet pea maze.
