Advance Study Spanish Students Engage in Insightful Conversation on Mexico-U.S. Relations With Guest Author and Professor

The class welcomed Dr. Alvaro Ramirez to lead an insightful conversation about Mexico-United States relations.
St. Margaret’s Upper School advanced study Spanish class recently had a special guest join their block for an insightful cultural conversation about Mexico-United States relations.
 
Alvaro Ramirez is a teacher of ethnic studies and world languages and cultures at Saint Mary’s College of California. He published a book titled Postcards From a PostMexican and spoke to the advanced study Spanish class, which focuses its studies on culture and history in the Spanish-speaking world.
 
Dr. Ramirez led a lively conversation about Mexico-United States relations, the Mexican Revolution, socio-political ties between the two countries and other topics in a block-long discussion. Dr. Ramirez was invited to speak to the class by Upper School Spanish teacher and World Languages Department Chair Bryan Cristóbal Sullivan.
 
Advanced study: Spanish culture and conversation is an elective honors course for students who have successfully completed a minimum of four years of the Spanish curriculum including AP Spanish Language and Culture. The course studies important historical and current events of the Spanish-speaking world and compares them to their representations in film and literature.
