Student life at St. Margaret’s has recently had a fun and competitive flair to it, as multiple divisions have busted out the brackets and organized exciting tournaments featuring favorite playground games.

Upper School Kickball
Tartan Field plays host to many athletic events at St. Margaret’s, but it had room for one more this spring: Kickball.

About 50 Upper School students spent several lunch periods this spring engaged in a fun and competitive kickball tournament, which quickly gained steam as a must-see event.

Senior Nic Jacome was league commissioner, organizing a five-team round-robin tournament with about 10 students per team.

“Every team played against each other before we had a finals bracket that led to the finals,” Nic said. “The student body got really into it and would gather to watch the games during lunch.”

The finals wrapped up just before Spring Break, with the Easter Bunny making an appearance to give the winning team its trophy.

Grade 5 Dodgeball
Grade 5 students are in the middle of a dodgeball tournament, organized by Lower School teacher Mick Vollmer with six teams competing to take home top honors.

Mr. Vollmer divided each of the grade 5 classes into two teams, for six teams total. The students are playing a round-robin tournament bracket on Mondays and Fridays during afternoon recess, with the championship set for next week with all of grade 5 in attendance.

“Because of the cohorts this year, the students have not seen much of each other nor have they been able to play together. This tournament is a way for the students to come together and have some camaraderie amongst each other with some fun competition.” Mr. Vollmer said. “We are also hoping to celebrate one another and learn to lift each other up and encourage their teammates and other teams.”
