Tartans Successful in Busy Athletic Weekend

St. Margaret's girls soccer, swimming and diving, boys basketball and lacrosse programs traveled near and far this past weekend, winning along the way.
Girls Soccer

The Tartans defeated Sage Hill School 1-0 on the road in a hard-fought contest Friday evening. Settling into a close match, both teams battled for possession and opportunities. St. Margaret's finally broke through in the 60th minute, with Megan Kenner slotting home the game-winner. Defensively, goalkeeper Ava Lentz recorded a clean sheet for the Tartans.

"It was great to finally get a game in after a long break in matches. Getting a win away and especially against a rival opponent, is always positive," said head coach Jenny Anderson-Hammond. "Looking forward to hosting Sage this Wednesday at 6 p.m.!"

Boys Basketball

St. Margaret's pulled off a thrilling 63-55 win over hosts Fairmont Prep on Friday evening. The Tartans and Warriors scrapped throughout the second half, with St. Margaret's maintaining a slight lead before shutting down Fairmont's offense in the final minutes.

The Tartans were led by Dylan Cormac (20 pts.) and Charlie Wohlgemuth (17 pts.) in the win.

"To get a league win on the road is a huge deal, particularly after a tough, double-overtime loss to Sage Hill just two nights before," said head coach Chris Nordstrom. "The team showed tremendous character in finding a way to bounce back."

The Tartans will return to the hardwood to face Fairmont at home on Wednesday, April 21. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.

Girls Lacrosse

The Tartans moved to 3-3 on the season, defeating Palos Verdes High School 19-5 on the road Saturday afternoon. Dominating every opportunity at the draw circle, Grace Karstetter, Lauren Lam and Minka Martinez kept St. Margaret's firmly in the driver's seat all afternoon.

Elise Peffer and Lauren Lam both notched hat tricks for the Tartans, while Caroline Gunderson, Thalia Pollard and Alexia Taylor recorded two goals each. Netminder Olivia Young had eight saves in the win.

The Tartans will next travel to face Newport Harbor on Tuesday, April 20 at 4:30 p.m.
