Tartan Football Holds on for 19-13 win over Westminster

St. Margaret's closed out an abbreviated football season with a road win over the Lions.
Despite a scoreless first quarter, St. Margaret's gritted out a 19-13 road victory over the Westminster Lions on Thursday evening. The Tartans took a 13-0 lead into halftime and had to fend off a determined Lion squad through the end of the game. St. Margaret's relied on two tenacious goal-line stands to seal the win.

St. Margaret's was led offensively by the stellar play of quarterback Jack Ruff (5/15, 174 yds, 2 TDs) and running back Benton Barlow (79 yds on 26 carries, 2 TDs). Bobby Springer hauled in an 80 yd touchdown pass while fellow receiver Trey Kingsley notched 79 yards on three catches and a touchdown. Johnny Iavarone contributed 13 yards on two catches.

Defensively, the Tartans kept the Lions at bay for most of the game, led by Nick Ostlund's six tackles (four for a loss) and seven assists. Caden McGlinn (three tackles, three assists), Chandler Bridgford (seven assists), Eliot Edward (five tackles, five assists), Eduardo Loya (two tackles, three assists), Connor Eiserman (one tackle, seven assists) and Battle Gideons (three tackles, five assists) rounded out the defensive effort for the Tartans.

"Definitely bittersweet last night. It was remarkable seeing the team get their first win, but it was even more remarkable seeing the team fight and battle to the end," said head coach Kory Minor. "Sending the seniors off on a high note was the goal. We accomplished that. Overall, it was a great three weeks and gives us huge momentum for next year with a full roster."
