Tartan Girls Track & Field Dominant in Win Over Crean Lutheran
The track & field teams traveled to Irvine to take on Crean Lutheran on Wednesday.
St. Margaret's received a tremendous effort from its female athletes at a dual meet at Crean Lutheran on Wednesday afternoon.
Claire Mullen got things started on the right foot for the Tartans with a big win in the 1600m, recording a swift 5:54.03 in the event. The points kept rolling for St. Margaret's when Makenna Lizarde hit several personal bests in the 100m (13.09), the 200m (26.49) and a 61 second split in the 4x4, which wound up being the fastest time at the meet. It was all St. Margaret's on the podium for the 100m, with Lizarde taking first, Malia Todd taking second (13.39) and Brady Moseley finishing third (13.87).
Luci Hill continued to improve in the field events, clearing 4'4" in the high jump while just missing a 4'6" attempt. Jane Celeste Taylor had a breakout afternoon, smashing the school record in pole-vaulting with a vault of 11'0".
On the boys' side, Ryan Sheikholeslami would finish 2nd in the 400m with a time of 56.95, besting his previous mark of 59.94. Calvin Capelle also picked up a big win in the 1600m with a time of 4:42.72, with the Tartans sweeping the event with Jackson Adelman coming in second and Everette Capelle coming in third. Adelman also debuted in the long jump, netting a win on a 17'4.5" jump.
"This team is special. I truly believe that when you care about your teammates and work for one another, the best comes out in everyone, and that is what we see here," said head coach Edgar Vazquez. "The boys are starting to get their pieces back to make us a strong team come the postseason, and the girls are just on a tear this early in the season. Look for the girls to turn some heads this spring. We as a staff are beyond excited for the outcome of this season!"
