PHOTOS: Entrepreneurs Everywhere! Grade 3 Students Thrive During Business Day

St. Margaret’s grade 3 students put on their entrepreneur hats last week, setting up tables with their unique money-making ideas as part of grade 3’s annual Business Day.

The energetic introduction to entrepreneurship happens twice a year, building skills in problem-solving, interpersonal communications, math and more.

Ideas were everywhere—custom-made St. Margaret’s fuse bead art, scrunchies, clay art, a raffle, paper airplanes, a sticker shop and more—for students to buy and sell products using pretend money.

Due to physical distancing guidelines, students had to shop within their cohorts this year, while special-subject teachers and even Lower School Principal Jennifer Blount and assistant principal Maile Bellosi stopped by to see the great business ideas in action.

Students often gave sales pitches to customers browsing their options, part of a business plan that they work on ahead of time.

“It is a fun opportunity for students to put their own ideas into action,” grade 3 teacher Penny Mateer said. “Business Day rewards hard work and creative thinking, plus students really enjoy seeing their friends’ wonderful businesses.”
