PHOTOS: Middle School Musical Breaks Ground With Live Virtual Performances

The four shows were viewed remotely, but performed 100 percent live as cast members broadcast separately from private practice rooms in the Performing Arts Center.
St. Margaret’s performing arts department put on a groundbreaking production of the Middle School musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, featuring 28 students over two casts telling the hilarious and touching tales of the Peanuts gang, including Charlie Brown and Snoopy.

The four shows were viewed remotely, but performed 100 percent live. Cast members rehearsed for two months from home using software like Zoom and Google Meet. The cast members then broadcast separately from private practice rooms in the Performing Arts Center, which was equipped with a computer, a Ring light and requisite chargers, cables, cords and plugs. Every aspect of this production occurred in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines to ensure a safe experience for everyone.

“The cast members worked diligently, and they showed dedication to the process and to each other,” said director and choreographer Daniel Pacheco. “They were well prepared for their performances.”

Mr. Pacheco led the production along with assistant director Corinne Samskey and music director Stacey Miles. The “Great Pumpkin and Valentine Cast” had two performances on Friday, while the “Christmas and Thanksgiving Cast” had two performances on Saturday.

“We are proud and grateful that we were able to put a production together,” Mr. Pacheco said. “While most theaters remain dark, our St. Margaret’s theater is very much alive albeit in a reimagined format.”
