Through the service projects, students were able to lend their talent and creativity to make an impact in the lives of others.
St. Margaret’s Middle School students worked on a variety of service projects this week, using their creativity and skills to benefit Brookdale Senior Living as well as St. Margaret’s Early Childhood School and Lower School.
The projects were split up by advisory to maintain cohorts. The students spread out across the Middle School campus for joyful creation of videos, Halloween decorations and more.
“Through these service projects, our students are able to lend their talent and creativity to make an impact in the lives of others," said Kylie Middlebrook, Middle School director of community life. "While Middle School Service Day had new parameters in place this year, the students really embraced the opportunity to connect with others and enrich lives and learning.”
Here’s a look at some of the projects:
Grade 6 Students in grade 6 wrote letters to Lower School students, selecting a character from a favorite children’s book and writing from the point of view of that character. Characters were chosen from books like Clifford the Big Red Dog, The Cat in the Hat, Charlotte’s Web and more.
Grade 7 Students in grade 7 created interactive videos in their advisories, to share with younger Tartans as well as residents from Brookdale Senior Living. The videos ranged from a read-aloud book, Spanish for beginners and color-mixing experiments for Lower School and Early Childhood School students. For senior citizens at Brookdale, two advisories created how-to videos to help with technology, such as how to do a FaceTime call.
Grade 8 St. Margaret’s grade 8 students worked on Halloween decorations for Brookdale Senior Living, including carving pumpkins, decorating luminary bags and other displays.
