PTF Celebrates Contributions and Accomplishments, and Looks Ahead to 2020-2021

The transition of leadership was done virtually during a video-recorded PTF Board Recognition and New Board Installation.
St. Margaret’s Parent Teacher Fellowship completed its annual volunteer recognition and transition of leadership that comes with the end of the school year, this time doing so virtually during a video-recorded PTF Board Recognition and New Board Installation.

In a fun exchange with her Lower School daughter, PTF President Dana Sullivan led a presentation of highlights from the immeasurable contributions of all PTF board members and volunteers, including the community-wide gala celebration in November of St. Margaret’s 40th anniversary: Forever Plaid: Ruby Anniversary.

Mrs. Sullivan said, “As a PTF we made such wonderful memories with our many community-building events this year, highlighted by our incredible Forever Plaid Ruby Anniversary celebration. Looking back now, these opportunities to be together seem all the more precious. Beyond the parties and fun gatherings, I have been so impressed by the resolve of this community during times of adversity. The way we came together in 2020 has been nothing short of remarkable. As Tartans, we are in this unprecedented time together and together we will see it through!”

Importantly, through the PTF’s many programs supporting the school this year, the board gifted $63,000 in resources and enrichment grants to support the school’s academic and student programs during the Fall PTF Grant Cycle. Additionally, in light of current events, the PTF committed $100,000 of funds raised this year toward the St. Margaret’s Emergency Financial Aid Program established by the Board of Trustees in April to keep the St. Margaret’s community together amid an unfolding U.S. economic downturn.

“This is an incredible gift to our school community, it is the embodiment of all we stand for in the PTF, and it wouldn’t be possible without the generous donation of time, talent and treasure by our many PTF volunteers and supporters,” Mrs. Sullivan said.

Head of School Will Moseley also participated in the film presentation to offer praise and appreciation for the PTF on behalf of the entire professional community. “We send our warm and sincere appreciation to all the PTF volunteers for their extraordinary leadership and dedication during this challenging year. Your contributions to the school make a difference in the lives of every single Tartan and we are extremely grateful,” he said. “I also offer my deep gratitude to Dana Sullivan for your strong partnership, amazing, steadfast leadership, and your dedication and unconditional love for our community.”

The film included a special thank you and tribute to St. Margaret’s parent and longtime PTF volunteer Marina Goffredo who is “graduating” to St. Margaret’s parent of alumni when her two youngest Tartans graduate in the Class of 2020 in June. Ms. Goffredo served as PTF President during the 2017-2018 school year.

Mrs. Sullivan also turned to incoming PTF President Dana Melsom, who previously chaired past Library Luncheons and Forever Plaid, to welcome the new PTF Board for the 2020-2021 school  year. “I cannot imagine anyone more well-suited to lead our organization next year than Dana Melsom. I hope you will join me in welcoming her as the 2020-2021 PTF President. Dana’s creativity, intelligence and positive, can-do spirit will enrich the PTF and continue to drive it forward. I wish her and the new PTF General Board the very best in the new school year!”

In lieu of the traditional swearing-in of the new PTF president by the outgoing leader, Mrs. Melsom was instead sworn in by her two children, both Lower School students.

Upon introducing the new board, Mrs. Melsom offered these remarks. “Dana (Sullivan), you have led the PTF seamlessly during these unprecedented times, and I am honored to follow in your footsteps and truly value your experience, guidance and support.

“It has brought me great joy to volunteer in many PTF capacities through my seven years as a St. Margaret’s parent. I have built lifelong friendships that I cherish, and now I am blessed with the honor and privilege to serve as your PTF president. I cannot thank the incoming board volunteers enough for their time and devotion to supporting our mission to offer cultural, physical, spiritual and educational enrichment to the students, teachers and families of St. Margaret’s Episcopal School through community building and fundraising. And, for that I am beyond appreciative.”

Especially in light of the many recent changes to daily life Mrs. Melsom encouraged all St. Margaret’s parents to get involved with the PTF in the coming year. Though events may look a little different, she noted, the spirit of the community and the PTF will remain a valuable part of the school experience. “Get involved in any way you can! Alone we are strong, but I know we are stronger together. Soon we will be Tartans together!”
