PHOTOS: Kindergarten Students Joined by ‘Flat Teachers’ for School Year’s Final Weeks

The “flat” teachers were inspired by the classic children’s book Flat Stanley, and were accompanied with a Bingo card of possible activities and assignments the students could do with their flat companion.
St. Margaret’s kindergarten students received a familiar face in the mail recently, as “flat” versions of their teacher arrived and joined them for school activities and assignments as the school year wraps up.

The “flat” teachers were inspired by the classic children’s book Flat Stanley, and were accompanied with a Bingo card of possible activities and assignments the students could do with their flat companion. It included assignments like “write a song or a poem with your flat teachers,” “Read your favorite books to your flat teacher” and “Go on a walk, hike or bike ride with your teacher.”

The students were also asked to take photos of their activities, and dozens of photos came pouring in to teachers Colleen Beshk, Jessica Banks and Mara Balak.

“I wish I could really fold myself up and visit you!” the teachers wrote in a letter to students. “This will have to do for now!”
