Middle School Latin 1A Students Dress Up and Hold Ancient Roman Elections on Zoom

It was a fun way to apply knowledge of their study of local government and elections in ancient Rome, as well as their use of Latin language.
St. Margaret’s grade 7 Latin 1A students held a special election on Zoom this week to name a “duoviri” for their class. It was a fun way to apply knowledge of their study of local government and elections in ancient Rome, as well as their use of Latin language.

As part of their campaign, students wrote an 8-10 sentence speech in Latin announcing their candidacy and persuading voters, which was recorded and uploaded to Flipgrid. The students then convened on Zoom to vote for their choice. To bring some authenticity and fun to the election, students dressed in traditional Roman togas.

“The videos were so well done,” Middle School Latin teacher Emma Johnson said. “The students were so witty and clever with how they decided to share their learning of local government and elections in Ancient Rome, going above and beyond my expectations. I am so proud of them.”
