Tartan Baseball Program off to a Fast Start

St. Margaret's is 2-0 to open the spring season.
The Tartan Baseball program came out swinging to open the 2020 campaign picking up two wins against Orange High School and Gladstone High School.

St. Margaret's relied on true grit to eke out a 9-8 win against Orange on Feb. 20 after being down 8-1 after five innings played. Pitcher Roberto Gonzalez produced three scoreless innings before the Panthers jumped out ahead. Jake Carreon held his own in relief, letting up no runs as the Tartan clawed their way back for the eventual win.

The St. Margaret's pitching staff again showed their mettle with an 8-3 win over Gladstone on Feb. 25 with starter Andrew Miehe digging deep for four shutout innings while Shane Olvera closed it out with a scoreless 2 2/3 innings.

The Tartan bats have been solid to begin the year with a .339 team batting average and 17 team runs. St. Margaret's leaders include: Tray Pate (5 H), Colin Miehe (3 H 2 RBI), Roberto Gonzalez (2 H 5 RBI), Wes Kim (2 H 4 RBI) and Jake Carreon (3 H 2 BB 2SB).

The Tartans return to play against Jordan High School in Compton on Friday, Feb. 28.
