Lower School Students Learning in New Ways With Enrichment Programs During Parent-Teacher Conferences

The enrichment programming creates new learning avenues for students while also creating time for teachers to meet with parents.
Whether it was a yoga session, coding in the ICE Lab or connecting with Upper School Peer Counselors, St. Margaret’s Lower School students are taking part in enrichment programming designed to teach the whole child while homeroom teachers are conducting parent-teacher conferences.

The work of instructional assistants, specialist teachers from every division and even Upper School mentors provides valuable learning avenues in health and wellness, cultural competency, STEAM and more.

Some of the enrichment workshops include:

-          A digital-citizenship workshop for grade 4 students
-          Grade 3 students practiced social-emotional learning skills.
-          Extending coding sessions for grade 5 in the ICE Lab.
-          The Tartan Inclusion and Diversity Education leadership group in the Upper School will lead a workshop with grade 4 students.
-          Grade 2 students worked on a “puff mobiles” STEAM project.
-          The Upper School peer counselors spent time with grade 1 students.
-          Kindergarten and grade 3 students participated in a basketball clinic led by Myasia Gray.
-          Film teacher Karen Bennett led an introductory lesson on telling stories through film.
-          Extended visual arts opportunities took place with Lower School instructional assistant Rachel Pyle.

“This enrichment programming creates new learning avenues for students while also creating time for teachers to meet with our parents,” Lower School Director of Community Life Tupper Spring said. “We are appreciative of our entire professional community for lending their expertise to offer students these valuable opportunities.”
