Tartan Artists and Writers Recognized With Regional Scholastic Awards

St. Margaret's students won 22 Gold Keys overall, which will be forwarded for judging in the national competition.
Artists and writers in St. Margaret’s Upper School and Middle School were honored in the 2020 Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, winning 103 art awards and 23 writing awards in the West Coast Regional At-Large Divisions. Tartans won 22 Gold Keys overall, which will be forwarded for judging in the national competition.

Since 1923, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards has recognized art and writing works in 29 different categories for students grades 7-12. Judges look for work that best exemplify originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Gold Keys are considered “the very best works submitted to local programs.”
 
Art

St. Margaret’s had 18 Gold Key winners from 16 different students, as well as 34 Silver Key winners and 51 honorable mentions.

Amy Na received two Gold Keys for her photography submissions “Personal Colors” and “The Stages of My Grief.” Tiana Pavia also received two Gold Keys for her photography “California Sunset” and “Lightning Strike” in addition to two Silver Keys.

Other Gold Key winners in art were Claire Ahn, Marie Byun, Jase Jeon, Isabella Karmis, Wendy Liang, Jackie Mok, Gianna Montesano, Melia Norwood, Anna Reinkensmeyer, Natalie Roby, Gabriela Sanchez, Cameron Sharifian, Sophia Wang and Janny Wu.

Writing

In writing, Tartans had four Gold Key winners, 10 Silver Key winners and nine honorable mentions.

Amy Shi won two Gold Keys, one in novel writing for “Armorial Luck” and one in Poetry for “Consequences.” She also won a Silver Key in poetry.

Also winning Gold Keys were Kaelyn Dunnell in science fiction and Ciara Robertson in short story.
