St. Margaret’s Seniors Receiving Early Admission to Colleges and Universities Around the World

More than 85 percent of the St. Margaret’s senior class have already received at least one college acceptance letter during the early-admission period, with many colleges and universities still in the process of notifying early applicants. In total, Tartans currently have 255 acceptances in the early-admission round to 97 colleges and universities across the United States and at universities in Australia, England, France and Scotland. The regular admission notifying period concludes April 1.
Students who apply early to college have two choices—early decision or early action. Early decision applications are binding. A student can choose to apply to their top-choice school by early decision, if it is offered by the school, and if they are accepted they are committing at the application step to enroll in the fall.
Early action is a college admission process where a student has the opportunity to apply in an early admission round before the standard January application deadline. This process allows a student to apply early, but retain the choice to consider other schools.
More than 90 percent of the Class of 2020 submitted an early-action or early-decision application.
In total, 25 Tartans—more than 20 percent of the senior class—have been accepted as early-decision applicants. They will enroll at schools including:

Some of the schools where St. Margaret’s students have been admitted early action include University of Colorado, Boulder, Harvard College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Michigan, University of Notre Dame, Southern Methodist University and The Ohio State University.
Among international schools, seniors have been accepted to The American University of Paris, University of Sydney, University of Edinburgh, and King’s College London.
“The college counselors have worked hard to expose our seniors and their families to many available college options. Our goal is to assist students in determining which schools would be good fits for their interests, talents and values,” Director of College Counseling Roland Allen said. “We are proud to see that hard work lead to success during this early-admission process.”
Senior Grace Zhou was accepted early-decision to Rice University and will enroll there in the fall. She didn’t have Rice on her initial list of schools, but researched the school more and was intrigued. A campus visit in October cemented her interest.
“I loved the atmosphere of the campus—beautiful and relaxed yet motivating. The students seemed genuinely happy and that’s what I wanted,” Grace said. “I really liked Rice, so I chose to apply early decision because I wanted to give myself the best chance I could to get in.”
Grace and her classmates have worked with Mr. Allen and Associate Directors of College Counseling Amy Warren and Jeff Jablonski to research schools, fine-tune essays and meet deadlines.
“All of the college counselors were really supportive throughout the whole process,” Grace said. “Ms. Warren was there to both motivate me and reassure me. Whether I needed her to read my essays or help me plan my college visits, she was there.”
