Fifteen St. Margaret’s students grades 5-7 recently completed a 10-week AppJam+ program in which they learned to create educational mobile game apps through a partnership between St. Margaret’s, the University of California, Irvine and Dreams for Schools.

The students presented their work at a showcase this week featuring 19 teams from five different schools on the UCI campus. St. Margaret’s had four teams take part, led by mentors who are students at UCI and California State University, Fullerton.

The St. Margaret’s team of Samarth Wadhwa, Angela Du and Sally Cheng took third place for their “Trashy” game app, where users could save the world by picking up trash in the ocean and avoiding a shark in hot pursuit. Other St. Margaret’s apps were titled “Calcium Saves the World,” “Cloud Chasers” and “Pop Quiz.”

This is the third year St. Margaret’s has participated in the AppJam+ program.
