Tartans Finish at the top of San Joaquin League With 56-7 Triumph over CVCS

St. Margaret's picked up the road win to close out the regular season.
St. Margaret's football program captured the 2019 San Joaquin League title with a 56-7 win over Capistrano Valley Christian at San Clemente High School on Friday evening. The win marks the Tartans' third straight league championship and twenty-first overall.

St. Margaret's, powered offensively by the dual receiving threat of Cooper Barkate (133 yds 10 catches 4 TD) and WIll Kenner (116 yds 9 catches 1 TD), dominated both sides of the ball all night. Quarterback Jake Carreon threw for 337 yards on 25 completions and five touchdowns. Carreon and tailback Sebastian Chicas added scores on the ground for St. Margaret's. Tyler Matthews rounded out the scoring for the Tartans, adding a touchdown reception.

On the defensive side of things, the Tartans were again flawless, holding the Eagles scoreless save for a kickoff return late in the game. Nick Ostlund (6 tackles, 1 sack), Sean Sullivan (5 tackles) and Robbie Healy (4 tackles, 1 sack) kept the CVCS offense in check with Cooper Barkate bringing down a momentum-stopping interception.

St. Margaret's (9-1) will await the CIF-SS Div. VI playoff seedings set to take place on Sunday, Nov. 3.

UPDATE: The Tartans will face Los Altos High School at home in the First Round of the CIF-SS Division VI Playoffs. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
