Tartans Down SVCS, Claim Share of League Title

St. Margaret's picked up a big road win on Tuesday.
The St. Margaret’s girls volleyball team was triumphant in a hard-fought battle against cross-town rival Saddleback Valley Christian School, cementing its place alongside the Warriors atop the San Joaquin League table. St. Margaret's defeated SVCS 3-1, clinching a share of the league title on Tuesday night.

"Big-time win for our kids. SVC is a very challenging environment, and we handled the pressure and adversity at an incredibly high level," said head coach Joaquin Acosta.

The Tartans were led by Kyla Cruse (12 kills), Emerson Flornes (12 kills), Olivia Hale (8 kills) and Mary Collier (6 kills).

Freshman Lucy Hill turned in a stellar performance, notching six aces and setting the tone for the Tartans from the serving line. Hill was instrumental in sealing wins in sets one and four.

"Last night's win was a total team effort. We relied on so many players to get us the win — a lot of great individual performances. Makenna Lim had her best match of the season controlling the backcourt and allowing us to be in good positions to attack most of the night. Kyla and Mary came up big offensively," said Acosta. "I am very happy for this group and especially happy that our seniors got to win league. They've given so much to our program. A special night to beat a quality team in SVC at their place."

With postseason play looming, the 21-6 Tartans will first take on non-league opponent San Juan Hills on the road on Friday, Oct. 18.
