St. Margaret's Defense Shines in 20-14 Win Over Visiting Santa Fe Christian
The Tartan defensive unit made big plays all evening.
St. Margaret's defense was the star in a 20-14 non-league victory over Santa Fe Christian Friday evening. Despite an early touchdown for the Eagles, the Tartans buckled down and kept Santa Fe Christian's offense stymied for the majority of the game.
Defensively, the Tartans were led by Caden Smith's twelve tackles, adding to his team-leading season total of 46. Nick Ostlund (8 tackles) led the Tartan defensive line, recording 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery while Kyle Juergens (5 tackles) and Sean Sullivan (4 tackles) contributed with a half sack each. Matt Stevenson (9 tackles) and Shane Dzwilewski (6 tackles) kept the Eagles in check all night.
On the offensive side of the ball, quarterback kept the Tartans ahead with two touchdowns and 272 yards passing. Receivers Will Kenner (143 yards on eight receptions) and Cooper Barkate (88 yards on seven receptions) each brought down a touchdown pass to help the St. Margaret's cause. Kicker Cameron Shirangi added two field goals and two PATs in the win.
St. Margaret's next takes on Bellflower High School on Friday, October 4 at 7 p.m. on Tartan Field.
