St. Margaret’s Expands Social Media Education Partnership With The Social Institute

St. Margaret’s students grades 5-12 will engage in social media education and conversation during advisory and class meetings. There will also be a special visit by The Social Institute CEO Laura Tienery later this month, including a parent presentation September 25.
Building on a successful partnership that started last year, St. Margaret’s has expanded its collaboration with The Social Institute to educate and empower students to have positive relationships with social media and technology.

“St. Margaret’s has an important role in guiding students toward responsible digital citizenship and technology use,” said Angela Mackenzie, director of library and digital literacy. “We are excited about extending our partnership with The Social Institute and continuing to help our students find balance with personal technology use and better understand how it affects their learning, growth, relationships and lives both now and in the future.”

Through the partnership, St. Margaret’s students grades 5-12 will engage in social media education and conversation during advisory and class meetings. There will also be a special visit by The Social Institute CEO Laura Tierney later this month, which will feature Middle School and Upper School assemblies, meetings with student leaders, and a parent presentation at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25 in the Library. All parents are invited to attend. Parents are also encouraged to fill out a survey, which will be sent out in division emails, to help with the direction of the Sept. 25 presentation.

The Social Institute empowers students to champion high character online, and shows students how social media can be used to positively portray one’s self, reinforce leadership strengths and make the world a better place. St. Margaret’s first partnered with The Social Institute last school year, conducting workshops and a parent presentation titled “Coach Your Child to Win at Social Media” which was well-attended.
