St. Margaret’s Student Films Selected for Prestigious Film Festival
The student films will be screened at the AMC Theater in Times Square and are eligible for jury and audience choice awards.
Four St. Margaret’s student films have been picked as official selections for the All American High School Film Festival, and the original works will be screened for a huge audience in New York City in October.
The selections from St. Margaret’s include “Outside” which was created by the Middle School’s introduction to film class as an animated adaptation of a children’s book by Deirdre Gill. The 6-minute film applied many different editing skills the students learned throughout the semester and has been widely acclaimed. In addition to being selected for the All American High School Film Festival in the animation category, it is also an official selection at the Adelaide International Youth Film Festival, the Best Shorts Competition and the Accolade Global Film Competition.
Three films created by Upper School students also were selected for the All American High School Film Festival in the micro movie category. They include “Kick Me!” by Robbie Healy and Chloe Reder, “Just Ask” by Alexandra Meyer and Chloe Reder, and “Rush” by Paul Boranian and Emma Scharf.
“Students in the cinematic arts classes at St. Margaret’s worked extremely hard to write, shoot, and edit their own original short films. I am excited to see that their work is being recognized at the All American Film Festival this October,” said St. Margaret’s film teacher Karen Bennett. “It is the largest film festival for high school students in the world and our filmmakers will be able to participate in red carpet events, screenings, panels, workshops, and networking events during the festival weekend.”
The All American High School Film Festival will take place October 11-13 in New York City, with the St. Margaret’s student films screened on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the AMC Theater in Times Square. All of the selected films are eligible for jury and audience choice awards, which will be announced October 13 at the Teen Indie Awards Show in Brooklyn.
