PTF Funds Generous Educational Grants for 2019-2020

The grants will serve to enrich students in the classroom as well as the entire Tartan community both now and into the future.
One of the Parent Teacher Fellowship’s most important initiatives is providing support and fundraising to enhance the student experience at St. Margaret’s. This year, the organization approved nearly $240,000 in grants, which will serve to enrich students in the classroom as well as the entire Tartan community both now and into the future.

The 2019 spring grants were officially approved this week by the PTF executive board, and the spring cycle includes general grants requested by faculty and staff, the continuation of standing grants and restricted grants. The fall grants were approved earlier this year.

Among the spring 2019 grants approved:

-          A video wall and sound system to enhance the technological capabilities of the Library.
-          Infrared and ultraviolet converted cameras for classroom use in Upper School art and science classes.
-          Readers Workshop resources for grade 6, which implemented the innovative Readers Workshop curriculum this school year.
-          Funds for a keynote speaker for Lower, Middle and Upper School STEAM students. The spring grants also fund the 2019-2020 PTF Parent Up Speaker Series program.
-          The Lower School Outdoor Classroom will get additional picnic tables for next school year.

In addition, the PTF approved the continuation of standing grants for Special Camp, Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano, Lower School Core Council, Middle School ASB, Upper School ASB, and St. Margaret’s Financial Aid program.

The grants are funded through annual PTF events and programs, including the Online Auction, the Library Luncheon, the Book Fair and a portion of the proceeds from the 2019 Forever Plaid all-school fundraiser held in March.

There are two grant cycles each year. The first cycle is in the fall semester and are funded in January so granted items can get into the classroom during the second semester. The second grant cycle is in the spring and awards grants that can be used starting the following fall semester.
