Seniors Andi Carnell and Robbie Graham Named OCADA Athletes of the Year

Carnell and Graham were honored at the Orange County Athletic Directors Association Awards on Tuesday evening.
Seniors Andi Carnell and Robbie Graham were named Academy League Athletes of the Year by the Orange County Athletic Directors Association at its annual Athletes of the Year Dinner on Tuesday night at the Anaheim Convention Center. The OCADA selects a male and female athlete of the year for each Orange County league. Only seniors were eligible.

Carnell, a cross country, soccer and track and field student-athlete at St. Margaret's, compiled an impressive record over her high school career. Carnell was the 2017 Academy League cross country champion and Athlete of the Year, 2017 and 2018 All-CIF and All-State awardee and 2018 All-County selection. Carnell, who holds every St. Margaret's course record except one, led the Tartans to a 2018 CIF Division IV team cross country championship and CIF State runner-up finish.

On the soccer field, Carnell was an equally fierce competitor, having been named second team All-CIF in 2018 and 2019. Carnell also captained the Tartans to a CIF SoCal Regional Title this past March.

Rounding out her career at St. Margaret's, Carnell holds the all-Time second-best time in the 1600m, winning the 2018 Academy League and reaching the CIF Finals in that event. Carnell also ran to the San Joaquin League title in the 1600m and 3200m in 2019.

Carnell will attend Boston College in the fall where she plans on pursuing her academic goals and her cross country and track and field careers.

"In addition to her personal success, Andi thrives on the success of others. She pushes all of the student-athletes in our program to higher levels of achievement and personal accountability," said head cross country and track and field coach Patrick Bendzick. "Her genuine interest in the welfare of the team became infectious and her ability to positively influence others far exceeds students of her age. Our program is forever indebted to Andi for what she has helped us accomplish."

Graham, also a three-sport athlete at St. Margaret's, excelled in cross country, soccer and track and field. In 2018, Graham was Academy League cross country champion and named Athlete of the Year while guiding the Tartans to CIF Southern Section and state titles as team captain.

On the pitch, Graham served as a captain on St. Margaret's 2019 San Joaquin Champion and CIF finalist soccer team. Graham also nabbed First Team All-League and All-CIF accolades.

Also in 2019, Graham finished as the San Joaquin League’s 3200m and 4x400m Track Champion.

Graham will continue his academic and athletic career at Colby College as a member of the cross country and track and field teams.

"The most impressive aspect of Robbie's contribution to the school is his motivation for the endeavor. He has never once lobbied to be a team captain and never expects any recognition. Robbie selflessly gives to this cause because it makes the campus experience better for our students and teams," said Bendzick. "His altruistic nature has become the primary source of influence in his leadership style, and the result has been a steady cultural shift by the students towards the importance of giving to others."
