PHOTOS: Lower School Loved Ones Visit St. Margaret’s for Grandparents and Special Friends Day

Nearly 500 grandparents and special friends were at St. Margaret’s for a morning of activities, performances and classroom visits.
One of St. Margaret’s most cherished traditions took place last week, as the school welcomed hundreds of loved ones to the Lower School for Grandparents and Special Friends Day.

Nearly 500 grandparents and special friends were at St. Margaret’s for a morning of activities, performances and classroom visits. It was an opportunity for the guests to see the Lower School first-hand and for students to share their Tartan experience with their loved ones.

With the theme of “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” the morning started with breakfast and a touching Chapel service in Pasternack Field House.

The service also featured student performances from each grade level, including “The Rainbow Connection” (kindergarten), “You Are the Sunshine of my Life” (grade 1), “For Baby (For Bobbie)” (grade 2), “Have It All” (grade 3), “Flashlight” (grade 4 & 5 choir), “America The Beautiful” (grade 4 & 5 band) and “Music for the Royal Fireworks” (grade 4 & 5 orchestra).

Several students presented for the Chapel service, including Campbell Healy (pledge of allegiance), Saba Farjami (seasonal prayer), Kaylin Vollmer and Lucca Krizman (student welcome and personal reflection), Kevin Hasani (Bible reading), Charlotte Sele (the Lord’s Prayer) and Lucas Caggiano, Lauren Kim, John Pintar, Reese Maciariello, Andy Zalk and Preston Oh (prayers of the people).

One grandmother in particular received special recognition from Lower School Principal Jennifer Blount during the service. Susan Remsberg, who is retiring at the end of this year after 40 years at St. Margaret’s, was honored for her enormous contributions to the school, and Mrs. Blount spoke to each of Mrs. Remsberg’s grandchildren and shared what they cherish about their grandmother.

Head of School Will Moseley wrapped up the service giving thanks to the important role of grandparents and special friends in the lives of St. Margaret’s students.

Afterward, guests visited their student’s classroom to meet teachers and friends and view projects that students have worked on throughout the school year. There were also activities in the new Lower School Outdoor Classroom.

The event was organized by Lower School administration, faculty, chaplains and the Advancement Office, with more than 50 volunteers dedicating their time. Thank you to the parent volunteers, faculty, staff and student performers for making the day so memorable for these cherished members of the Tartan community.
