Tartan Baseball Explodes for 17-1 First-Round Win

St. Margaret's put on an offensive clinic, routing La Quinta HS on Thursday.
The Tartans made the most of their opening playoff matchup, pummeling La Quinta HS 17-1 in CIF-SS First-Round Baseball Playoff action on Thursday. St. Margaret's is currently riding a 14-game win streak with no signs of stopping.

Trey Pate recorded the win on the mound, only allowing three hits over six innings, stifling the Aztec's offensive performance. Pate was supported by the bats of Will Riddle (3-4, 3 RBIs, 2 runs), Colin Miehe (2-3, a double, two walks and 3 runs), Wes Kim (1-3, a triple, 3 RBIs and 2 runs) and Hunter Smith ( 2-3, 2 runs).

"Our guys handled the moment, winning a playoff game by playing their best game of the year so far. Through this 14 game winning streak, we've continued to improve every day. As a coach that's all you can ask for," said head coach Scott Wallis. " They know they've been unranked all year and haven't gotten much respect and they feed off that. Our next opponent, Century HS, might be the best team we've faced all year so hopefully, we can keep this going. We've forgotten how to lose, so 18 in a row is a strong possibility."

The Tartans will hit the road to take on Century HS on May 7 at 7 p.m. in the second-round.

UPDATE: Gme time has been changed to 7 p.m.
