Tartans Advance to Lacrosse Semifinals

Both Tartan lacrosse programs make it through to the Semifinal round for the third consecutive year.
St. Margaret's boys and girls lacrosse teams are experiencing deja vu, having advanced to the Orange County semifinals three years running.

The girls' program defeated San Clemente High School 13-6 on Thursday evening to represent St. Margaret's in the May 4 semifinal at Segerstrom High School. St. Margaret's received a big game from Campbell Case who notched a team-high four goals and three assists. Case was followed closely by Niki Miles (3g, 3a), Maddie Barkate (3g, 2a) and Grace Karstetter (2g, 2a). Olivia Young was solid in the cage for St. Margaret's

The Tartans will face off against Mater Dei on Saturday in a rematch of the 2018 Orange County Championship. The Tartans won that tilt 14-9 and eventually were crowned Southern Section Champions. Please consult the athletics website for updated semifinal game information.

The boys' program secured their place in the Orange County Semifinals by defeating Newport Harbor 11-4 Thursday night. The Sailors jumped out to a 3-1 deficit early before the Tartans settled into a 6-4 lead at halftime. St. Margaret's defense, led by goaltender Zane Handy, completely took over in the second half with the Tartans shutting out the Sailors over two quarters.

In the win, the Tartans were led offensively by Koa Todd (3g, 2a) and Nate Sanchez (3g, 2a). Kevin Groeninger again set records, becoming the California state all-time leader in points (392) with two goals and two assists on the evening. Groeninger set the all-time assist record (195) on Tuesday night.

St. Margaret's will draw Corona del Mar in Saturday's Semifinal matchup at Segerstrom HS. Game time is slated for 4:45 p.m.
